The opportunities to create the professional life you want have never been greater. The technical evolution and the internet enable working from wherever you want, whenever you want, with whoever you want. You no longer have to worry about whether the market is big enough – today you can connect with your tribe all over the world. You can develop new innovative business models supporting the lifestyle you seek and letting you go for Your Next Big Thing.

More and more professionals choose to take on temporary “gigs” instead of full time employments. So why not turn that thing you really dig, into a gig?

On Thursday we’ll do a BLAB on the topic “If you Dig It – Gig It!”. If you’re interested in knowing more about this, join us on Thursday!

Tonight I will host my very first blab on the topic “The Beta Paradigm – Crackin’ the Code of Being Hired”. Me and my co-author of the book The Beta Paradigm, Per Frykman, will share our best ideas and success factors on how to get hired now and in the future. 7 hours to go 🙂

Most welcome to join us! Sign up here.

Some time ago I heard the term ”outovation”. More and more businesses realize they cannot figure it out all by themselves but need help from outside also in core processes like the one of innovation. The not-invented-here mindset is replaced by proudly-found-elsewhere. Instead of copyright, use copy right 🙂 Let others build upon and push your ideas forward. Realize there is no competition as we’re all unique and there’s no-one else with the exact same qualities and combination of strengths as you. Combine innovation with outovation and you’ll see that Your Next Big Thing isn’t that farfetched.

A wall is just a bridge on edgeways (En mur är bara en bro på högkant). That line from Swedish artist Emil Jensen has helped me walk pass barriers many times. Think about it – what if the thing that seems like an obstacle really is an opportunity on your way towards Your Next Big Thing? All you have to do is to turn it around.

How easy it is to get stuck in all the urgent stuff going on on a daily basis. How easy it is to forget the important, not so urgent, stuff that will take you towards Your Next Big Thing. But what if we should agree on doing one thing, no matter how small, that is important each day? That means taking one step towards Your Next Big Thing each day, which means 365 steps closer to Your Next Big Thing in a year. Sometimes you really gotta love math, right? 😉

Alright, thought I’ll try to illustrate what we actually mean with a customized book. And yesterday (which for the record was Saturday 😉 ) I was in the store to buy some sweets and this metaphor came into my mind. In Sweden you can buy sweets basically in two ways – pre-packed or unpacked.

Pre-packed is actually the way we buy books today.

prepacked

You can of course choose what book you’d like to read. But you can’t really effect what’s inside. And after having a lot of the same you might get a bit bored (not always of course) and sometimes there might even be part you don’t like a t all and as a consequence don’t eat, or read in case of the book.

What we intent to do is this:

unpacked

We’ll write our best ideas and what we know about how to be successful in the beta paradigm – a professional world where change is constant and so fast that you need to be a permanent beta version of yourself, Then, you choose what parts you’d like in your book. In that way you’ll get a book uniquely tailor-made for you where you actually like all the content (at least the chances are good you will).

We don’t know exactly how this will be done, yet. If you like the idea and wanna be part of pushing the book business forward, please help us out. You find our crowdfunding campaign here. We’d love your support!

Focus on what you do best. Find someone to help you with the rest.

Be courageous and ask for help/delegate, that’s how you manage to stay flexible and move fast which I believe is key to success in today’s ever-changing world.

Preparing a keynote on the future of work life. Three keywords to be successful in my belief: flexibility, swiftness, courage.

This is what I think is needed:

  • Stay flexible: change is the only thing constant, make sure you can easily take on new conditions. Never settle, always strive to make progress.
  • Move fast(er): No time for extensive planning, launch in beta and improve as you go.
  • Be courageous: Takes courage to push opportunities and make new, disruptive ideas come to life. But that’s the way forward.

Interesting discussion yesterday about entrepreneurship. My take is that entrepreneurship no longer has to do with whom you’re employed by. Entrepreneurship is about mindset – about seeing things as they could be rather than as they are and having the courage to push opportunities to make the ideas come to life. Doesn’t really matter if you’re employed by yourself or by someone else. Though, my firm belief is that an entrepreneurial mindset is crucial to succeed in today’s ever-changing world, and if you can’t nurture your entrepreneurial mind with your current employer, consider becoming your own boss.

We know that all work that can be digitalized will be digitalized. And what is digitalized can be copied. What can’t be digitalized and copied is our artistry; our ability to dream and imagine things as they could be, rather than as they are. To me, that sounds like hardcore money. So why are we so afraid to use our imagination at work?

I say – dream on. Go for Your Next Big Thing!
